The Plough, in common with many of the cottages in
the historic centre of Town Yetholm, is officially listed and protected
as a building of architectural importance.
History suggests that there was an inn on this site long before the
18th century but the present building dates to the late 18th, early
19th century. The main building was subsequently re-modelled and extended
in the early part of the 20th century, to what can be seen today.
An early documentary source (c 1860) describes the Plough as a 'nice,
respectable country inn and the first house of entertainment in Town
Yetholm, where there is good accomodation for travellers and suitable
stabling for horses' |
Nowadays, we can offer off-road free
car parking in front of the hotel building.
Standing within 1 mile of the Scottish-English border, the Plough
is a popular destination for families exploring the surrounding Borders
country-side, south of Kelso. The Bowmont valley in which the village
is situated, is overlooked by the majestic Cheviot Hills, which are
prominent from the hotel building. This picturesque area, is a magnet
for hill-walkers and features such popular walking routes as St.Cuthberts
Way, the Pennine Way and latterly the E2 - a footpath which will eventually
extend over mainland Europe. |
Dining
The Plough Hotel has developed a reputation for
quality meals, with owners Diane and Andrew Hay personally involved

finest fresh local produce and seasonal vegetables and at least one
vegetarian dish is always included. We can also accomodate special
dietary requirements on request. For children, or those with a smaller
