Built in 1750 as a coaching inn with a totally thatched roof, the hotel was originally known as the 'Grey Horse'.
In 1893 the thatched roof on the main building was replaced and the name was changed to the 'Border Inn'  In 1898 the gable was built and the name changed again to the 'Border Hotel'.


Over the years the building has been progressively altered and upgraded. It now boasts a conservatory leading onto a beer garden, a function room and two small dining rooms - as well as all the modern facilities the discerning traveller has come to associate with quality accomodation.


Comfortable Reception AreaThe Border, is now a family owned and run hotel. The proprietors, Philip and Margaret Blackburn and staff, are always on hand to ensure your visit is comfortable and enjoyable. The hotel offers excellent standards of accomodation and facilities whilst set in a particularly pretty rural location amid unspoiled surroundings.
Renowned by walkers as the Northern end of the 268 mile Pennine Way, the hotel also provides an ideal base or stopping-off point, for cyclists, golfers and anglers.

It is a particular favourite for those engaged in Country Sports, or for those who are just touring the beautiful Scottish Borders in general.

Children are most welcome, as are pets by prior arrangement. All major credit and debit cards are accepted.

 

Accommodation.

The Border, has five named bedrooms, consisting of one family room, two twin rooms and two double rooms.Light & Airy Bedrooms

Each room offers exceptionally high standards of comfort with spectacular views over the village green or the surrounding country-side.
All five rooms are as charming as they are functional, with en-suite shower and bath, colour television, tea and coffee facilities and radio alarm.

Breakfasts are served from 8am and offer a comprehensive choice, from the traditional Scottish Breakfast or the popular Scrambled eggs with Smoked Salmon.

Dining at The Border

 

Dining Room & Function SuiteIf you wish to dine with us for an evening meal, it is advisable to pre-book. We do get very busy and we always try to ensure that our guests have priority.
Chef Proprietor, Philip Blackburn prides himself on using the best of local seasonal produce to create a varied menu. The local Border Lamb is one of our most popular dishes, as is the fresh fish from Eyemouth.
The 'Special's Board' changes daily where you will find a fine selection of fresh, mouth watering seasonal dishes, all prepared to order and served by our friendly local staff.


The Bar The Bar

The Public Bar, with its log fire, is open all day. It offers a range of bitters and lagers including a range of 'real ales'.
Being a freehouse means that the real ales range changes frequently.
The wine list is selected to complement the menu and a range of selected malt whiskies are also held in stock at all times.

As well as the bar area, there is also a spacious adjoining conservatory.
This leads onto the patio and through in to the Beer Garden - making it a perfect haven of relaxation for those beautiful, balmy Summer days and evenings.

Lounge Bar

Functions & Facilities

The Function Room has a reception area for pre-dinner drinks and seats up to 80 guests for dinner, or up to 50 for a dinner dance. These facilties prove very popular with local clubs and associations. Just off the function room is the well stocked lounge bar which can cater for a full drinks and refreshment menu in relaxed and comfortable surroundings.


With the charming Parish Church just 200m from the hotel, The Border Hotel also serves as a perfect wedding venue, with facilities for the entire wedding party, guests and visitors alike. The proprietors would be happy to discuss your requirements and can arrange all manner of personalised finishing touches to suit your big day.
